Anti-Slip - What is it and do you need it?

One major benefits of sealing concrete - applying a protective barrier between the surface and the elements - also as one minor drawback, the surface can become slippery when wet or snow covered. Our premium sealers work so well that the repelled water stays above the surface and not absorbed into it. How do we solve this? By adding a silicone "grit" to our sealers also know as anti-slip.

This additive is invisible and doesn't cloud or alter the look of the sealer when dried.

Do you need anti-slip? It all depends on the type of surface and where we are applying. For example, we won't seal a Pool Deck without anti-slip no matter the surface. Water and bare feet aren't the greatest mix. Same goes for stairs or high traffic areas. We will always recommend anti-slip on stamped concrete and patio stones for that extra layer of protection.

Exposed aggregate and brushed concrete don't necessarily need an anti-slip application as the surface is already rough enough and providing that feature, but can be added on request.

If we use anti-slip on your project, remember that nothing is 100% guaranteed to keep you from falling and caution still needs to be taken on any surface with or without an anti-slip application, especially when wet. But to provide that extra level of safety and protection, adding anti-slip to one of our premium concrete sealers is a great choice in the Okanagan.
